So…What Is Reiki?
Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese form of stress reduction that also promotes healing. Practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to aid in healing and harmonizing. Unlike other modalities based the premise of the human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital life force energy has become unbalanced. Reiki energy has several basic therapeutic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, resets the nervous system, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy and increases vibrational frequencies within the body.
In Reiki, the practitioner places their hands above the client’s field of energy; however, it is the client that draws the energy as needed. What this means is that the individual being treated takes an active part in the treatment process as opposed to a passive part. In a nutshell, Reiki goes where it’s needed! It helps unblock congested and “stuck” energy channels.
Although there are few positions where the practitioner is in contact with the client (such as cradling the head), most Reiki sessions do not involve actual touching. The practitioner holds their hands a few inches or further away from the clients field of energy. Clients always remain fully clothed during their Reiki session.
What Does A Reiki Session Feel Like?
A Reiki treatment feels like like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial elements that include feelings of peace, security and well being.
Clients will often experience deep relaxation and a light slumber. Some may experience warmth and/or or tingling sensations in specific areas. After your Reiki session, you’ll be given water and it’ll be important to feed your body plenty of water the remainder of the day. This will help promote the elimination of toxins released during the session. Your body may or may not need a bit of quiet time to continue releasing toxins or you may be ready to return to your daily activities feeling renewed. Listen to your body as it will let you know what is best. A great deal of purification and cleansing takes place during a Reiki session. This is all part of the healing process and I will be part of your support system!
How Long Is A Reiki Session?
All sessions with The Reiki Gal will last one hour. First time clients may spend a bit longer. This “get to know each other”session is important so that you feel completely comfortable and well-informed before starting your journey. You may click on Menu of Services for pricing information.
How Often Should I Come For A Reiki Session?
Frequency of Reiki sessions will depend on the issue and situation. Consistent care produces a cumulative effect in maintaining unblocked free flowing energy. Note: No two sessions are alike. Beyond your initial treatment, additional sessions or a maintenance plan may be suggested. This will be addressed on your initial session and together we can work on a routine that will be suitable to your needs.
Is Reiki A Religion?
Good question. One that I am asked quite often. Reiki is practiced by followers of many religious traditions. Although some practitioners integrate Reiki into their existing religious beliefs, Reiki is not a religion, doctrine, or dogma. Reiki is grounded in the principle of compassionate action, which is common to all religious traditions. I was raised Catholic. I attended Catholic school beginning in the 7th grade. For me, Reiki has allowed me to have an ever deeper connection with our Creator. I was able to see his hand in all things. That was an “ah-ha” moment!
*Disclaimer: All clients who are seeking a Reiki session understand that Reiki is a simple energy technique used for purposes of stress reduction and relaxation. Clients also understand that Reiki Practitioners do not diagnose, prescribe or perform medical treatments, prescribe substances, nor interfere with the treatment of a licensed professional. It does not take the place of medical or psychological care. Reiki can complement any medical or psychological ailment. Clients must understand and believe that self-improvement requires commitment on the part of the client and must be willing to change in a positive way if they are to receive the full benefit of a Reiki session.
